If you have been reading a lot of Sales Motivation related books, then I am sure you would
have definitely read the book titled “The Greatest Salesman in the World” by
“Og Mandino”.
If not, then go Buy, Beg, Borrow, or Steal (Just Kidding), but
get hold of this book and read it.
I believe it’s a must-read book not only for a sales professional but also for anyone looking for self-motivation. Though this book was written in 1983, the wisdom it holds is still applicable today.
I read the book couple of months ago and was revisiting it again. So I thought it would be worth sharing a few good quotes from the book which would pump up your adrenaline rush and motivate you to close more sales.
Book "The Greatest Salesman in the World" |
Quote 1:
I will consider each day’s effort as but one blow of my blade against a mighty Oak. The first blow may cause not a tremor in the wood, nor the second nor the third. Each blow, of itself, may be trifling and seem of no consequence. Yet from childish swipes, the Oak will eventually tumble. So it will be with my efforts of Today.
Explanation:
One of the ingredients of Success in Sales is Persistence. The more persistent you are, with
your prospecting activity, your sales calls, your follow-ups, the more deals you would take
to closer. Hence the key takeaway from this quote is to always keep trying and never give up
on your prospect. One day you would definitely close the Deal.
Quote 2:
Today I will surpass every action which I performed yesterday. I will climb Todays Mountain to the utmost of my ability yet tomorrow I will climb higher that today, and the next will be higher than tomorrow. To surpass the deeds of others is unimportant; to surpass my own deeds is all.
Explanation:
This quote cites the importance of Goal Setting in Sales. More specifically it cites the
importance of setting realizable goals. As a salesperson, it is important to set goals as
per your ability rather than others. Hence always set goals as per your own ability even if
your goal is higher or lower than the other salespersons and once you achieve your goal, set
your next goal higher than the previous goal. You should set your own sales benchmarks
rather than following up on someone else’s.
Quote 3:
Only actions determines my value in the marketplace and to multiply my value, I will multiply my actions. I will walk where the failure fears to walk. I will work when the failure seeks rest. I will talk when the failure remains silent. I will call on Ten who can buy my goods while the failure makes grand plans to call on One. I will say it is done before the failure says it is too late.
Explanation:
The essence of this quote lies in the fact that all big plans,
promises, dreams, and goals are worthless unless and until you execute them. Hence the key
takeaway is to act on your plan instead of just planning. Get to the ground and start
executing your planned sales activities like sales calls, follow-ups, presentations, etc.
Your actions would take your sales, towards closure.
I hope these quotes would help you stay motivated and would push you to close more sales in the coming week.
